REL Sub Bass Reinforcement.

REL make subwoofers. That’s it. Nothing else. No distractions. Nothing to steal their focus. No kidding themselves that they can be good at everything. No trying to conquer the whole world. They just do their best to conquer their bit of it.

REL Reference No.25 Subwoofer - now on demonstration!!!

Beauty, Power and Speed...

No. 25 combines the power of an ultra-reliable 1,000 watt amplifier, with a lightweight and perfectly balanced carbon fibre 15” driver. All this is controlled by REL's legendary filter sets and proprietary crossovers with 2 separate parametric equalizers permitting remarkably flat in-room response, while maintaining the speed and resolution for which modern RELs have become known.

REL want their customers to enjoy all this performance without being limited to only a few room locations, so they've  built-in the legendary LongBow™ wireless receiver into every No. 25. This design utilizes zero compression, resulting in stunning dynamics and bass extension without being tethered to a cable, while delivering sound quality comparable to their competitor’s hardwired designs. It’s just another example of how REL strive to offer complete and thoughtful solutions.

Functional Curves...

No. 25 marks a new standard in cabinet execution, both for its physical beauty and the manner in which it manages the critical backwave propagating from the rear surface of the massive 15″ carbon fibre piston at its heart. The shape of No. 25 is designed to disturb and cancel much of the incredible force created by the inward stroke as No. 25 reloads for your music or film’s next set of demands. It is necessary to keep this backwave as silent as possible, while allowing the driver to “breathe” without compressing dynamics. The curvilinear cabinet walls deflect, diffuse and dissipate these waves into smaller cross plane waves. Minimizing rear waves that eventually emerge as comb filtering — noise that cancels the primary bass — is what creates clear, purposeful bass that strides into a room with tremendous energy and clarity.

Comprised of 30mm thick (about 1 1/8″) Australian MDF, transected by hardwood spars that break up common mode resonances within the top surface of the cabinet and down its sidewalls, the bracing is not unlike the spars in a ship’s hull. Some may view this as excessive, but these are the lengths REL's design team goes to to deliver the finest subwoofer extant, fully fitting of the title No. 25.

Agile Power...

It takes huge power to invest the No. 25 with the shattering dynamics of which it is capable. The rugged beast of a 1,000 watt NextGen3 amplifier that powers No. 25 has already proven itself in the field in one of REL's previous designs, making us comfortable with not only its startling sonic performance but also its reliability.

However, No. 25 is no mere exercise in excess, but rather a thorough exposition in the art of rendering sub bass, totally, completely and with great deftness in tonality, expression and dynamics. It is this ability to not merely play loud, but to bring to life the contrast between loud and soft passages that makes REL owners so passionate about their designs. After all, dynamics are not merely the ability to play loud, but to bring to life the contrast between loud and soft passages in music or film. Ultimately, this is what makes the No. 25 the addiction it quickly becomes.

REL Reference G1 MKII Subwoofer

A Classic Reborn...

Retained is the classic curvilinear cabinet, with its shape carefully engineered to cancel standing waves as they travel rearward through the cabinet. The laminated hardwood bracing reminiscent of musical instruments still finds a home—though re-configured for even greater rigidity. The amplifier is the powerful, yet highly controlled and ultra-reliable 600w Class A/B with new limiters that allow almost 40% more power being delivered without compression.

The driver—the heart and soul of any REL– has been dramatically upgraded with greater fore-and-aft stroke, a more supple suspension and the ability to handle greater dynamics. This new version is now capable of 112 dB output. expands the performance horizons of the original in every way, whilst retaining its core strengths of dignified beauty coupled to even more savage output.

Hand Crafted from Marine Grade Hardwoods...

Whilst the outer form garners all the praise, with its 1-1/8” thick curvilinear surfaces artfully finished in 12 coats of hand polished piano black lacquer, it is the inner construction that produces the clarity, quietness and dynamics for which G1 MKII will become known. The marine grade laminated hardwoods REL employ are not unlike the spars on a ship. Each cabinet require two days of production time to build a single unfinished cabinet. Then the raw cabinet takes three weeks to handcraft. The resulting structure is far more than a beautiful shape; it is the structural basis for the deep bass the G1 MKII produces.

Class A/B Amplifier...

The massively beautiful, finned, alloy heatsink is necessary when dissipating the sorts of power necessary to produce prodigious deep bass for hours on end. Capable of outputting a conservative 600W (120V) on occasion, REL's dedicated Class A/B amplifier used in G1 MKII is a true dreadnaught. Powerful, fast and capable of tremendous current delivery, it is the finest amplifier ever designed by our engineers.

For G1 MKII REL borrowed techniques learned in just the past year to ensure virtually limitless electronic limiting. These newly developed circuits allow for almost 40% more power being developed through the driver before gentle limiting takes over. The net result is that plays substantially louder (about 5 dB) than its illustrious forebear.

A Carbon Fibre Core...

The bass engine of any REL is its crowning glory. The G1 MKII driver is some 25% stiffer in bending modes than the award-winning original, which makes it better able to cope with the profound dynamics asked of a Reference Series REL. This improvement permits REL to use a softer suspension better able to react quickly to dynamics, both large and small. The result is a substantial upgrade in the speed, liveliness and dynamics of the entire system. Suspension travel now permits over 2” of stroke, which makes for exceptionally high output, resulting in almost twice as loud a final result as its predecessor. This exceptional force and agility makes the G1 MKII ideal for powerful home theater as well as fine 2-channel systems.

REL Series S 212 SE Subwoofer

Quality meets Quantity...

REL believe in quality first, not simply power and boom. They believe that 1,000 watts is only desirable if it’s conveyed with speed and control. Which is why the 212/SE was engineered to not only make your heart pound and walls shake, but restore midrange warmth and harmonic structure, while providing a powerful, rich low-end. This combination of speed, power and grace driving multiple room modes (forward, down and rear) makes it ideally suited for high end 2-channel, grand rooms and dedicated theaters, allowing larger state of the art speakers to spring to full voice.

Twin CONTINUOUS CAST™ Alloy Bass Engines...

To produce the highest output single-box solution, REL doubled up on the Continuous CastTM Alloy Bass Engines that bring critical acclaim to Serie S, altering them slightly for this twin front-firing configuration. These twin actives are responsible for 212/SE’s incredible speed and tactility.

REL's own Continuous CastTM Alloy Cones reduce moving mass while maintaining rigidity, producing far more speed and precision than prior designs. These twin long-stroke 12″ bass engines, partnered with (2) matching 12″ passives provide the speed quality of a REL with a power never felt before. This combination offers the driven surface area of twin 17” drivers in a cabinet just 16” wide.

Simply Awesome.

Twin CONTINUOUS CAST™ Alloy Passive Bass Radiators...

The 212/SE uses two matching Continuous Cast Alloy passives that are stiff, lightweight and incredibly well behaved. REL's approach to passive design results in performance more akin to a variable ratio driver size – as more power and deeper bass is demanded, the passive comes to life, gradually expanding the capabilities of the active engines.

The down firing passive produces deep, floor-crawling bass that makes a room shudder. Mounted above the amplifier panel on the rear is the second passive. This unit produces wrap around “atmospheric” bass that adds air and shimmer to the sound. Coupling with either the rear wall or the rear corner of a room allows for bass to develop exceedingly long wavefronts and adds an ease and effortless quality unique to single-box designs.

REL Series S S/5 Subwoofer

The Serie S Flagship...

S/5 SHO (Super High Output) exceeds the mandate for mid-level models and crosses this model into near reference quality. S/5 SHO’s 15” Continuous CastTM Alloy Cone Driver and carbon passive radiator produces exceptionally low bass with tremendous impact and speed. Its NextGen2 550W digital amplifier makes large scale, high-end 2-channel systems and grand theaters a perfect pairing. Medium to grand rooms are more than appropriate as scale is very large, speed is exceptional, and attack and slam is visceral.

SHO refers to Super High Output, made possible by a new 3-stage limiter REL engineers created after extensive testing revealed that much higher output, higher gain and higher performance could be unlocked. The result is a new design that is capable of more than doubling its predecessor’s output. Specify the S/5 SHO, singly or in pairs, when your system is of exceptionally high quality, and your speakers and room can support high levels of dynamics and bass extension.

CONTINUOUS CAST™ Cone Bass Engine...

S/5 SHO’s driver features an all-new alloy cone structure that takes REL mid-level product to a performance that exceeds the reference products of only a few years ago. By reducing moving mass, with a balanced approach to design, the REL engineering team was able to produce far more speed than prior designs. By carefully adjusting key parameters, they were able to increase the self-quieting key to a high end component’s ability to resolve space and inner detail. Improvements in REL designs translate into enhancement in your entire system.

Carbon Passive Radiator...

S/5 SHO uses a special carbon passive radiator that is stiff, lightweight and incredibly well-behaved. REL's approach to passive design results in performance more akin to a variable ratio driver size. On an S/5 SHO, think of it as a sliding ratio design wherein the S/5 SHO begins as an ultra-fast 12” sealed box design and, as more power and deeper bass is demanded, the S/5 SHO gradually morphs into the power and output of a 15” design.

Nice.

NextGen 2 550 Watt Digital Amplifier...

Beyond the proprietary drivers, the performance of a REL is determined by their unique input filters and amplifiers. S/5 SHO uses a simple filter-type that is very fast—about 8 milliseconds in group delay– to cross out unwanted higher frequencies to our driver. This speed and the carefully sorted filters allow for seamless blending of REL's with the main speakers. REL's do not include a high pass filter to cross out bass from the main speaker because to do so would generally produce more unwanted effects than the minor benefits such a design confers.

S/5 SHO’s power amplifier is a powerful NextGen2 550W digital amplifier. This design has powered thousands of RELs and has proven exceptionally reliable and very fast with deep, extended lows.

REL Series S S/3 Subwoofer

Power and Performance...

S/3 SHO (Super High Output) derives from the flagship S/5 SHO offering a more compact footprint while retaining much of S/5 SHO’s performance, making it an ideal pairing for slightly more modest systems and rooms. In quality it is the equal of S/5 SHO using the same Continuous CastTM Alloy Cone Driver and carbon passive radiator, only in a slightly reduced size, paired with a 400W NexGen2 digital amplifier. Beautifully balanced, S/3 SHO offers powerful, incisive performance for both 2-channel and theater systems.

REL T-Zero Minimalist Subwoofer

Compact Power and Finesse...

Tzero is built using a super stiff cabinet construction that drives the resonant frequency higher so it is more easily damped by REL's instrument-grade bracing. REL utilize 5 full coats of lacquer, and solid aluminium feet and badging because REL owners understand quality must extend throughout a product, not just in the most obvious locations. And its diminutive scale allows it to all-but-hide among the furnishings in your home.

Bass Beyond its size...

At REL every clean sheet design begins by defining and designing the best bass engine for a given application. While the long throw 6.5” is REL's smallest-to-date, but make no mistake it is powerful and articulate, able to fill medium-sized rooms effortlessly. Have a much larger space? Distribute them throughout for an unobtrusive spacious presentation of music and film sound.

Right Sized Power and Control...

Though Tzero is REL’s entry level, that doesn’t mean it can’t punch far above its weight class.

100W high current watts from a NextGen Class D amp means it holds its head high and is capable of delivering many years of satisfying performance. Includes a full REL connectivity suite, fast 8ms delay filter set and our famed High Level Input as well as a .1/LFE input.

Tzero_
longbow-final

REL Longbow Transmitter

LongBow permits very fast, uncompressed bass to be sent wirelessly within the same room approximately 45 feet (somewhat dependent upon room clutter). Conventional wireless systems operate by hugely compressing the sound, shipping the compressed digital bitstream through the air and then expanding it back to its “original” form. The results are a noticeable lag in speed (engineers refer to this delay as latency) and an un-involving quality which often suffers from thinness. LongBow upgrades the digital pipeline from 16 bit to 24 bit, then ships over un-compressed 48kHz signals. Eliminating the compression/expansion chokepoint and using audiophile grade A/D encoders results in fast (typically about 80 percent faster than traditional Bluetooth or Wi-Fi systems) rich, natural bass.

Arrow_front

REL Arrow Transmitter

Arrow is REL's latest zero compression method of distributing wireless and delivers performance quickly, reliably and without the thin, dried out sound most wireless systems deliver. In part, this is achieved by eliminating the often very slow delivery methods offered by off-the-shelf Bluetooth and wi-fi based systems.

This freedom permits ultra-high performance without the cumbersome tether of a cable, allowing careful placement without being limited by the length of a wire and can lead to a better sounding, less cluttered experience. Giving you the ability to place subs in distant corners, along glass walls, or on hardwood floors where a cable would otherwise destroy the effect
